Jean C. “Jeanie” Johnston, age 77, of Chambersburg, PA passed away at the York Hospital on Thursday, February 6, 2014. Born July 26, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Paul T. and Pearl Davis Carey.
Ms. Johnston worked as a Nutrition Aide Supervisor for the Franklin County Extension Service for over 30 years. She received her Associate’s degree from Liberty University. After her retirement she continued to working as a Community Support Associate for Keystone Services and volunteered at the House of Grace in Chambersburg. Jeanie enjoyed painting, worship, dancing, and singing. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are three sons, Eric and wife Diane of York, PA, Chris and wife Suzanne of Sinking Spring, PA, and Alec and wife Ann of Cumming, GA; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Gordon Carey (wife Crete) of Texas, Tony Carey of SC, Ruth Swanstrom (husband Bill) of MD, and Shirley Burdeaux of MD.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 400 Miller St., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Garry Kipe will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 10 from 6 – 8 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the above church and address.
