Jean Cameron Laubach died peacefully on January 8, 2014, at Menno Haven Nursing Center, one day before her 90th birthday. Jean was born January 9, 1924, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the only child of Francis Willard and Gladys Turner Cameron.
Jean thoroughly enjoyed music, playing both the violin and piano. She enjoyed dancing, playing bridge and was an avid reader. She graduated from New Castle High School and Gettysburg College. In her senior year of college she was asked to teach English and math courses at nearby McConnellsburg High School, since many teachers had gone to fight in WWII. She graduated in 1945 and accepted a teaching position at Waynesboro Area Senior High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Vance Sutliff Laubach. They were married on June 29, 1947 in the Waynesboro Presbyterian Church. They lived in Waynesboro until 1969, at which time Vance returned to active duty and they moved to Yardley Pennsylvania. When Vance retired in 1979, they returned to Waynesboro, spending their winters in Palmetto, Florida.
In addition to raising their three daughters, Jean was active in various PTA groups, and she was the piano accompanist for the Morrisville Presbyterian Youth Group. She worked full time in Yardley and was also an active member of Eastern Star.
In 1993 they moved to Chambersburg Pennsylvania. There they joined the Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring, where Jean was a member of the bell choir. Vance died on July 3, 2002 and shortly thereafter, Jean moved to Penn Hall in Chambersburg.
Jean is survived by her three daughters, Ann Walker (William) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Sue Kampstra (James) of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Kay Kunkleman (Carl) of Phoenix, Arizona, and six grandchildren.
A private service will be performed at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring, 221 North Main Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
