Jean Stenger, age 82, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 24, 1935, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Harvey G. and Grace E. Shields Wingert.
Mrs. Stenger was a 1953 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She was a Bus Driver for the Chambersburg Area School District for 25 years, retiring in 1997. She was a lifetime member of King Street Church, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; she also enjoyed attending AARP meetings, the Jolly 60’s, Joy girls and attending “The Breakfast Club at McDonald’s”.
Surviving are five children, Sharon D. Nicarry (husband Rick) of Greencastle, PA, Steven D. Stenger (wife Sherry), Susan D. DeWitt (husband David), Shawn D. Stenger (wife Jackie) of Chambersburg, and Scott D. Stenger (husband Eric) of Albuquerque, NM; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two on the way. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband and childhood sweetheart, William “Ole W.D.” Stenger in 2010 and two sisters, Pearl M. Souders and Dorothy L. Kump and one brother, Harold S. Wingert.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Paul B. Baker and Rev. Ron Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Franklin/Fulton Unit, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403.
