Jeannette B. Lehman, age 88, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 8, 1926 in Newton Falls, OH, she was the daughter of the late Arthur F. and Bessie Grinnell Bender. Her beloved husband of 47 years, John Parr Lehman, preceded her in death on September 10, 1995.
A 1944 graduate of Newton Falls High School, Jeannette went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wilson College in 1948. Early in her life she worked as a social service case worker, Director of Franklin County Child Care Service, then a teacher of special education in the Chambersburg area. She later joined the administrative staff of Wilson College as Director of the Annual Alumnae Fund, a position she held from 1968 to 1974 and again from 1979 until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where she sang in the choir for more than 20 years, the Franklin County Wilson Club, the Franklin County chapter of PASR and AARP. Jeannette enjoyed knitting and her Wednesday book club. She also enjoyed attending Wilson College reunions and events.
She is survived by three sons, Alan R. Lehman and wife Marsha of Bolivia, NC, Mark E. Lehman of Chambersburg, and Bruce B. Lehman and wife Maureen of Barrington, NH; nine grandchildren, Bradley “Scott” Lehman and wife Cassie of Chambersburg, Jeremy Lehman of Bremerton, WA, Joel Lehman and wife Rhea of Bremerton, WA, Crystal Staats and husband John of Chambersburg, Brandon Lehman and wife Abby of Homestead, FL, and Lauren Lehman, Adrienne Weldon and husband Mark, Justin Lehman, and Krystin Lehman, all of Chambersburg; and ten great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Bender.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Charles Kampmeyer will officiate. Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a half hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
