Jeffrey L. Gipe, age 67, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Hershey Medical Center. Born November 19, 1947, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence E. “Cub” and Jean Harrison Gipe.
A 1966 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Jeff went on to serve in the U.S. Army honorably during the Vietnam conflict, he continued his service to his country at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he retired in 2005, after 35 years of service. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, the BPOE Elks Club #600, the Chambersburg Club, and the George Washington Lodge #143 F.& AM, all in Chambersburg. An avid outdoorsman, Jeff enjoyed playing golf, hunting, landscaping, and coaching girls’ softball. Full of life, Jeff loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. A jokester at heart, he was well known for his ability to make everyone around him smile.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 45 years, Geraldine “Gerri” Ruggiero Gipe, whom he married on March 7, 1970; three daughters, Mandy Heckman (husband Mickey), Shelby Stevens (husband Stewart), and Jenifer Swatsburg (husband Gregory); six grandchildren, Cota and Tuck Heckman, Brooke and Hunter Stevens, and Garrett and Aden Swatsburg; his brother, Jerry E. Gipe (wife Linda); a nephew, Brian Gipe all of Chambersburg, PA, and his beloved dog, Sophi.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 12 noon at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 125 Park Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201, where Rev. Suzanne Elliott will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the church. Interment with military honors provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the above church and address. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
