Jennie Mao

January 17, 1979 — September 17, 2021

Jennie Weichen Mao, 42, of Chambersburg passed peacefully at home on September 17, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Jennie was born on January 17, 1979, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1998. Before graduation she completed the Culinary Arts Program at Vo-Tech.

Jennie had a big personality and was full of energy. She was very special to everyone who knew and loved her. As an adult with special needs, Jennie participated in the Keystone Human Services day program where she volunteered at many locations throughout Chambersburg, including nursing homes, day care centers, the Relief Center, the House of Grace, the Salvation Army, and the Animal Shelter. Jennie also participated in Franklin County’s Therapeutic Horsemanship for the Handicapped Program and took piano lessons at the Cumberland Valley School of Music.

Jennie had a zest for life. She loved the thrill of competition and was on the ARC bowling and swim teams. She also enjoyed playing arcade games, working out at Results gym, shopping, cooking and going out to dinner with her friends. She loved staying connected to her friends and family via Facetime and Facebook and enjoyed playing games on her iPad.

Jennie is survived by her mother, Melanie Bays, her siblings Emily McCarty, Ann Jonas and Jonathan Mao, her step-mother Irene Mao and her half-siblings, Rendy Mao and Renee Arricole. Jennie was preceded in death by her father, Nathan Mao and her step-father, James Bays.

Words cannot express how much Jennie will be missed by her family, especially her mother. She was taken from us too soon and too suddenly by pancreatic cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10:00 am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Christopher Frye will officiate. The burial will be private immediately following the service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the nave of St. Luke Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jennie Mao to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
