Jerry Burkett

Jerry D. “Donnie” Burkett, 65, of St. Thomas, PA passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 17, 2021. Born November 2, 1955 in Hope Mills, NC he was the son of N. Joan (West) Burkett and the late Donald D. Burkett.

He was a graduate of Williamsport High School, Williamsport, MD with the Class of 1973. Jerry served as a Sergeant with the United States Army National Guard until 1982 and then with the United States Army Reserves until his honorable discharge May 8, 1986.

He was employed for over 30 years as the superintendent of Norland and Cedar Grove Cemeteries with the Chambersburg Cemetery Company. Jerry also worked at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg; Wilbert Vault Company, Hagerstown; and Dart Drug Store, Hagerstown.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Heather R. (Angle) Burkett who he married July 27, 2009 in Fayetteville, NC; two children, Zachary Burkett of Chambersburg and Valeri Williams and her husband Kevin of Fort Riley, KS; a step-son, Ty Robinson of St. Thomas; two sisters, Beverly Parks of Chambersburg and Tammy Shields and her husband Robert “Bob” of Shippensburg; a niece Ashley Parks and three nephews, Jordan Parks, Adam Suders, and Bret Middlekauff.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 23, 2021 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Steve Barnett and Pastor David Grove officiating. Burial will follow in the Norland Cemetery, Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA where military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
