Jerry A. Nitterhouse, age 72, of Chambersburg, PA passed away in the Harrisburg Hospital on Friday, January 11, 2013. Born December 20, 1940 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Robert T. and Dorothy V. Lehman Nitterhouse.
A 1958 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Jerry continued his education at Shippensburg University, where he received both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree. Jerry went on to teach science in the Chambersburg Area School District for 13 years, and then persued a career in civil service at Letterkenny Army Depot. He retired from Letterkenny in 2003 as a Chief of Production Engineer. Jerry was a member of numerous local social organizations, and he enjoyed and had a passion for golf and his Bassett Hounds. In addition, he enjoyed spending time with his family and woodworking.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 30 years, Sherri Palmer Nitterhouse, whom he married on January 8, 1983, two children, Christine Ann Nitterhouse (Tracy Colligan) of Gaithersburg, MD and Alexander J. Nitterhouse (Kristen) of Lancaster, PA, four grandchildren, Bailee, Kegan, Estella, and Hadleigh Nitterhouse, and one brother, Robert L. Nitterhouse (Ginger) of Fayetteville, PA.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, with Rev. Rick Noll officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Wednesday from 12 – 2:30 PM. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202, or the the Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, 747 South Fourth St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
