Jerry E. Owens, 79, of Chambersburg, and formerly of Mt. Airy, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2023 with his family by his side. Born June 5, 1943 in Birchleaf, VA, he was the son of Caudle W. and Allene L. Viers Owens.
Jerry was a 1962 graduate of Haysi High School in Haysi, VA. A US Army veteran, Jerry served honorably during the Vietnam Era as a Missile Defense Radar Operator at the Nike Missile Site in Gaithersburg Maryland from 1962 – 1965. He was employed as a High Voltage Electrician with the National Institute of Standards Technology, formerly the National Bureau of Standards, in Gaithersburg, MD for 40 years. He was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church and a former member of Winfield Bible Chapel in Woodbine, MD for over 40 years where he served in the children’s ministry and with Vacation Bible School. Jerry also served as a volunteer at the Carroll County Hospital in Westminster, MD. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, gospel music, and loved his dog Jenny.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann Fink Owens, whom he married on September 25, 1965; two children, Timothy Owens and wife Rayla of Falling Waters, WV, and Pamela Marrazzo and husband Mark of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Allison Moberly, Kaitlyn Moberly, Emily Myers and husband Ricky, and Anthony Marrazzo; three great grandchildren, Kloie, Dallas, and Montana; and his sister, Sandra Lockhart and husband Woodrow of Newark, OH.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, PA. Brother Steve Trostle will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chambersburg Bible Church Missionary Fund at the above address.
