Jess Salmon

Jess L. Salmon, age 85, of Chambersburg, died on Thursday, October 18, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on January 8, 1927 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Clifford and Alice Leedy Salmon.

Jess was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He worked for Letterekenny Army Depot for 38 years until retiring in 1983. He was a member of Salem United Brethren Church, in Chambersburg, and the Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612 in St. Thomas. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, baseball and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice R. Swope Salmon, whom he married on March 17, 1957; three children, Gregory Salmon (and wife, Michelle) of Orrstown, Steven Salmon of Rehrersburg, PA, and Debra Miller (and husband, Terry) of Chambersburg; siblings Patricia Stevens, Paul Salmon (and wife, Betty), Ray Salmon (and wife, Charlotte), Ronald Salmon (and wife, Peggy) and Robert Salmon (and wife, Bev), all of Chambersburg; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Bill and Joe, and his sister, June Frank.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 22, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Jason Bakker will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-9:00 PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday. If desired memorial contributions may made in his name to the Salem United Brethren Church, 4349 Letterkenny Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3544 North Progress Ave., suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
