Joan Shaffer

Joan M. Shaffer, 89, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Laurel Lakes Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. Born November 22, 1933 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of John R. and Martha Weaver Wingerd. Her beloved husband, Paul E. Shaffer, preceded her in death.

Joan was a 1952 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She spent most of her life making a home for her family. She served as a volunteer at the Chambersburg Hospital for over 25 years. Joan enjoyed cooking, crocheting, playing piano and organ, walking, and watching birds at her bird feeder.

She is survived by two children, Michael Shaffer and wife Marty of Chambersburg, and Carin Shaffer of Hagerstown, MD; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey and Steven Shaffer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 PM on Tuesday prior to the service.
