Joan E. Strader, 86, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday evening, December 18, 2015 under the care of Quincy Village and SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice. She had been a resident of Edenville for the past 23 years. Born December 13, 1929 in Donora, PA, she was the daughter of the late J. Francis and Elsie V. Gilmer Strang. Joan was a 1948 graduate of the Donora High School and was married to Ronald K. Strader on January 5, 1952. She graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA in 1951 and was employed as a Registered Nurse in several hospitals in both Pennsylvania and New York.
She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Brethren Church in Fort McCord and actively served in the Children’s Ministry. She also took part in visiting new families in the community and hosted an evening Bible Study every Wednesday. She volunteered at Pregnancy Ministries in Chambersburg and worked diligently to promote the value of the unborn child. She enjoyed bird-watching, playing the piano, camping, sewing, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald K. Strader; her son, James A. Strader and wife Meg; her daughter, Cindy L. Snider and husband Garry; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry W. Strader and her brother, Francis Strang.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Interment will follow at Edenville United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM – 1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
