Joanne S. Fox, 92, widow of J. Nelson “Nellie” Fox, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Menno Haven Brookview. Born on October 10, 1928 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Omar F. Statler and Ethel Niswander Statler.
A 1947 graduate of the former St. Thomas High School, she married Nellie on June 28, 1948. Joanne would enjoy traveling the country with her Hall of Fame husband, as he played professional baseball. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1975.
Joanne was a longtime member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church, the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary, and the Norland Garden Club. She was a 25-year volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She loved gardening, crafts, puzzles and playing bingo. She was an avid Chicago White Sox fan as well as a fan of her grand dog corgis, Biscuit, Bud, and T-Bone.
Surviving are her two daughters, Bonnie R Robinson and Tracy L. Fox, both of Chambersburg; three sisters, Jeannie (Henry) Stouffer of Greencastle, Kay (Allen) Mentzer of Ft. McCord and M. Darlene (Leroy) Meyers of St. Thomas. Aside from her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Eleanore H. Hartman Statler.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1, at the United Methodist Church of St. Thomas, 360 St. Thomas-Edenville Rd., St. Thomas, PA, with Pastor Candy Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nellie Fox Memorial Association 439 Lincoln Way East Chambersburg, PA 17201. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Menno Haven Brookview for the good care they took of Joanne.
