Joanne Gilliland, 85 entered Heaven peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 23, 1933, in Rockhill Furnace, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna Pheasant.
Joanne was a 1951 graduate of the former Orbisonia High School. She married Clifford Gilliland Jr. on July 4, 1953. Joanne was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren and most recently attended New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church. She worked in a sewing factory most of her working years and retired from the Rockhill Furnace Elementary School as a cafeteria worker in 1995. Affectionately known by her family as “Lil G”, she was always joyful and fun-loving. She cherished spending time with family, reading, socializing, shopping, and valued her friendships with ladies from church and Luther Ridge.
Surviving is her daughter, Cindy Booher (Stan) of Fayetteville, PA; three grandchildren, Amy Heeter (Brian) of Williamsburg, PA, Matt Booher (Dara) of Edinburg, VA, and Anna Lehman (Micah) of Chambersburg, PA; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Winifred Cooper of Mt. Union, PA.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, daughter, Diane Gilliland in 1973, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. at New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, 1575 Mont Alto Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Lawton Jacobs will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be private at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, PA. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
