Joanne Louise Umbrell Small, 75, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Wednesday morning, February 24, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Mechanicsburg, PA. Born August 7, 1940 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late James C. and Iva Miller Umbrell. She worked as a nursing assistant at the South Mountain Restoration Center, retiring in 1987. Mrs. Small volunteered at the Scotland Community Center on Bingo nights. She loved Bingo and enjoyed playing the penny slots at the casino. She liked traveling to the beach and going to the cabin in Potter County. Her husband, Robert G. Small, Jr., whom she married in October of 1957, preceded her in death on March 16, 2007.
She is survived by her son, Michael R. Small and wife Lesa of Fayetteville; her daughter, Sheri Abel and husband Daniel of Mechanicsburg; two grandchildren, Robbie Small and fiancé Lauren Meyers of Fayetteville and Derick Small and fiancé Amber Mahon of Fayetteville; a great-grandson, Christopher Small; and her brother, James C. Umbrell and wife Diana of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory L. Small in 2002 and a sister, Peggy L. Roberts in 2015
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
