John Alberts

John R. Alberts, 84, formerly of Fayetteville, PA, died Tuesday morning, June 5, 2012 at The Quarters at the Shook Home in Chambersburg. Born May 31, 1928 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late William Alberts and Lillian Bumbaugh Cordell. Mr. Alberts served in the US Army Air Corps and was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring in 1983. Following his retirement from Letterkenny, he worked as a custodian at Zion Reformed Church and for the Chambersburg Area School District. He attended Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church and was a volunteer at Chambersburg Hospital for ten years. His wife, Josephine M. Rosenberry Alberts, whom he married July 28, 1949, preceded him in death on May 27, 2009.

He is survived by two children, Richard Alberts and wife Susan of Mineral, VA and Donna Preisler and husband Robert of Chambersburg; five grandsons; one granddaughter; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert Cordell of Pond Bank and Ronald Cordell of Chambersburg; and two sisters, Delores “Dort” Olson and Charlotte Cook, both of Pond Bank. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Cordell, and a sister, Patricia High.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
