John J. Ballard Jr., 75, of Greencastle, PA passed away Sunday afternoon, November 6th, 2022 at the Wellspan York Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. John was the son of the late John J. Ballard Sr. and Berniece May (Von Seggern) Ballard, born on July 4th, 1947 in Bowling Green, Ohio. John was the oldest sibling to two brothers Daniel and Jeffrey Ballard and sister Judy Stout.
Living a happy life with his parents and siblings, John had graduated with the Class of 1965 from the Otsego High School in Ohio. He had a hard working mentality and had become the retail manager of multiple Rite Aids in the area as well as the Ames store of Chambersburg. Outside of work, he enjoyed trading in the stock market and had a love for poker. He always got excited to play with his family during gatherings. He enjoyed sports throughout his life which included playing softball, bowling in his bowling leagues and loved watching his children as well as his grandchildren play their own sports. Among other hobbies, he had a passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.
John is survived by his soulmate, Mary A. Ballard as well as his eight children, Gerald A. Ballard, John E. Ballard, Jennifer M. Fretter (Aaron), Sarah E. Ballard (Robert), Sandra A. Johnston (Thomas), Michael J. Ballard (Sheila), Ashley N. Winters (Thomas), and Cassandra L. Brake (Charles); 20 grandchildren, Noah, Charlene, Gabriel, Raphael, Angela, Rieder, Sierra, Kyleigh, Logan, Tommy, Alexa, Olivia, Parker, Kade, Kole, Jamesyn, Cohen, Kenna, Tessa, and Johnny; three siblings Daniel Ballard (Diane), Jeffrey Ballard (Robin), and Judy Stout (Cary); and a number of nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his, brother Baby Boy Ballard, first wife, Charlene Ballard, and his son Steven Ballard.
In his memory, the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, November 11th, 2022 as well as one hour prior to services on Saturday (10:00 AM). Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 12th, 2022 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, 17202.
