John Boise

John “Polly” Boise, Jr., 89, passed at 8:05am on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Chambersburg Hospital following several months of declining health.
Born July 13, 1923, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John M. Sr. and Leona (Wilson) Boise.
John was a US Navy Veteran stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He enlisted July 12,1943 and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. After the war John worked briefly at Letterkenny Army Depot in the ammunition department. Later, for L.B. Smith as a laborer. In 1983, John retired from South Mountain Restoration Center where he worked in the Housekeeping Department.
He was a member of John Wesley AME Zion Church, and an emeritus Trustee.
An avid football fan, Mr. Boise enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and was a beloved Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a lifetime member of the Mercersburg American Legion Post # 0830. John was one of the original players on the Chambersburg Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa (Blakey), his brother, Paul; a half-brother, half sister and great grandson. John is survived by a daughter, Donna Moton, three granddaughters, Francine, Justine and Lenore and one great granddaughter, Gabrielle Wyant and brother-in-law, Delno Blakey of Long Beach, CA; and several great nieces and nephews. .
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at John Wesley AME Zion Church, 155 W. Catherine St., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Allie J. Harper will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Wesley AME Zion Church building fund. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
