John E. Bubser, Sr., 84, of Chambersburg, and formerly of Audubon, PA, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 1, 2018 at Providence Place in Chambersburg. Mr. and Mrs. Bubser enjoyed residing at Shannondell at Valley Forge for 12 years prior to moving to Chambersburg. Born June 27, 1933 in Schuylkill Haven, PA, he was the son of the late Francis X. and Mary Smerko Bubser. He was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from St. Francis University in Loretto, PA. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a Physicist at ICI Americas for more than 30 years. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg and a former long-time member of St. Teresa of Avila Parish in Norristown, PA. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Pottsville and a member of the Optimist Club and the TKE Fraternity. His hobbies included woodworking, reading, and model trains. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Anne F. McGovern Bubser, whom he married July 12, 1958; three children, Michele A. Stepler and husband Sidney of Chambersburg, Dr. John E. Bubser, Jr. and wife Beth of Dunkirk, MD, and Christine A. Bubser and husband David Baron of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Stepler and wife Jenna, John E. Bubser, III, Samuel Baron, Catherine Bubser, and Ellie Baron; two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Emmett Stepler; and his sister, Eleanor Zelusky of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Francine Wisner.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Brian Olkowski at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. A committal service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Corpus Christi Cemetery Columbarium.
