John Cerifko, 72, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, January 20, 2019 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 22, 1946 in Phillipsburg, PA, he was the son of the late John and Barbara Mandel Cerifko. He was a graduate of the West Branch Area High School and went on to graduate from Dubois Business College and Fort Lauderdale University. He served honorably with the United States Army. An accountant, John retired from Carlisle Barracks and had previously been employed at Martin Truck Corporation in Hagerstown, MD. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the National Rifle Association, and USH Tae Kwon Do. He enjoyed golf and taught Tae Kwon Do for many years at Carlisle Barracks.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Alther Cerifko, whom he married December 7, 2001; his son, John Cerifko of Texas; three step-children, Steve Patterson and Cheryl, Kevin Patterson, and Kelly Lanes and husband Rich, all of Chambersburg; his step-granddaughter, Andrea Randall and husband Chuck and their children Aiden, Damon, and Scarlett Randall, all of South Carolina. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 25, 2019 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Suzanne Elliott will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
