John Crosby

January 20, 1927 — March 20, 2018

John J. Crosby, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, March 20, 2018 at Chambersburg Hospital while surrounded by his family. Formerly of South River, NJ and Silver Spring, MD, Mr. Crosby was born January 3, 1927 in Phillipsburg, NJ, to the late John J. Crosby, Sr. and Mary Crocomo Crosby. He was a graduate of the St. Philip and St. James School in Phillipsburg, NJ and went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree in accounting from the University of Scranton. He served honorably with the US Navy during WWII. He was employed as manager of former Montgomery Ward department stores from 1955-1962. He was then employed by the Martin Marietta Corporation in New York City and Bethesda, MD as a Financial Analyst, retiring in January of 1989. Following his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Crosby enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their RV. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, both in Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Murphy Crosby, whom he married June 10, 1950; five children, Eileen M. Glynn (Patrick) of Allenhurst, NJ, Maureen Brewster (Robert) of Westfield, NJ, Kevin Crosby (Mary Lynne) of Magnolia, TX, Thomas J. Crosby of Boonsboro, MD, and Kathleen Maier (Jonathan) of Chambersburg; sixteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew, and a grandson, Scott Brewster.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by The Very Rev. Fr. Luis R. Rodriguez at 11:00 AM Friday, March 23, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30-10:30 AM at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Interment with military honors will be at 2:30 PM Monday, March 26, 2018 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
