John E. Furry, age 59, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 3, 2015, with his family by his side. Born in Chambersburg, PA on September 20, 1955, he was the son of Anna Grace Heckman Furry and the late Fred R. Furry.
An avid outdoorsman and outgoing spirit, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. He was passionate about baseball; he enjoyed coaching and watching baseball. John was a member of the Fayetteville Athletic Association and a life member of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department. A 1973 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior high School, John went on to work for Greene Township as an equipment operator for the last 40+ years.
In addition to his mother, John is survived by two sons, Joshua J. and Josiah E. Furry both of Fayetteville, PA; his lifetime companion, Norma Bollinger, brother, Jim T. Furry (wife Barbara) of Chambersburg, PA; and three great-nephews.
Funeral Services to honor his life will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Garry Culler and John’s nephew, Dr. Timothy Furry will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 6 – 9 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in John’s name to the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, 101 West Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222.
