John D. Hahn of Chambersburg, PA died peacefully at home on Dec. 1, 2016 at the age of 80 after an extended illness. Born July 21, 1936, in Canton, OH, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Gerlock) Hahn.
John was a graduate of Timken High School and the University of Akron. He was a master woodcarver and the owner/operator of The Woodshed until his retirement. His carvings are in businesses and homes across the country. John also was honored with a request to carve the signs for the US Coast Guard tall ship, the Eagle, which are still in place today. He was a member of First Church of God, Chambersburg and a past member of Faith Family Church in Canton, OH where he created friendships he cherished until his passing. John instilled the importance of faith and family in his daughters and grandsons. He was a loving husband, proud father, and cherished grandfather. A man of compassion, sense of humor, integrity and loyalty he lived his life putting the needs of others before his own.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Marge (Collier) Hahn; daughters Lisa (Marlin) Byers of Chambersburg, PA, Holly (Doug) Cox of North Canton, OH; and 2 grandsons, Reed T. and John D. Byers of Chambersburg, PA; Brother-in-Law Rod (Barb) Collier of Marietta, OH; his nieces and nephews; countless friends and a lifetime of memories. John was preceded in death by his sisters Jean Walters and Katie Esber.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Faith Family Church, 8200 Freedom Ave NW, North Canton, OH 44720. Pastor Jack Pancher will officiate. Friends will be received from 10:30 to 11:00 AM prior to the service and a time of fellowship will be held at the church immediately following. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shalom Christian Academy, 126 Social Island Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
