John Hart

John F. Hart, 90, a resident at Menno Haven in Chambersburg, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 in Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 22, 1922 in Rich Hill Township, PA, he was a son of the late Charles and Grace Gray Hart. Following graduation from Rich Hill Township High School, Mr. Hart entered the US Army in December of 1942 and served with the 99th Infantry Division during WWII in the Rhineland, the Ardennes, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and in Central Europe prior to his honorable discharge in January of 1946. . He retired in 1983 as Chief Operating Officer at Texas Eastern after more than thirty years of service. He was a member of Heidelberg Church of Christ in Marion, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and the 40 et 8 Club, both in Chambersburg, and Frank L. Carbaugh Post 373 American Legion in Greencastle. An avid hunter, Mr. Hart enjoyed hunting with his family in Greene County and family vacations at the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife, Martha J. Allen Hart, whom he married October 31, 1948; four children, Rebecca Pickett and husband Jonathan of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Beth Castillo and husband Miguel of Steelton, PA, John A. Hart and wife Nancy of Marion, PA, and Paula Stuard and husband Craig of Shady Side, MD; five grandchildren, Robert Allen Brookens, Alex Martin Hart, Tyler John Hart, Michael Mac Washinger, and Lindsay Hart Sumners; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Brenda Hart; his sister, Pauline Hart; and an infant sister.

Services will be private. Private interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will be at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Marion, PA.
