John Hockensmith

July 18, 1927 — January 3, 2018

John Hockensmith, Sr., age 90, of Chambersburg, PA passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Born in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Miles Hockensmith, Sr. and Rachael Coy Hockensmith.
After graduating from the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Hockensmith went on to study drafting and design at the Chicago Tech College and both mechanical and aeronautical engineering at the International Correspondence School. He would later graduate and work at Domestic Pump, Fairchild Industries and JLG as a Project Design Engineer, where he would later retire. He was a member of King Street Church, the Elks Club, Chambersburg Club, AMVETS, and Marine Corps Clubs, all in Chambersburg. He enjoyed drawing, studying, bowling, horseshoes, and camping.
Surviving are three children, Sondra Hockensmith of Chambersburg, PA, John Hockensmith (wife Dena) of Chambersburg, PA, and Terry Hockensmith (wife Darlene) of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Colby Hockensmith (wife Misti) of Anniston, AL, Lilaney Houser of Chambersburg, PA, and Brett Hockensmith (wife Melanie) of Chambersburg, PA; step grandson, John Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Jenna and Brady Houser, and Spencer and Brooklynn Hockensmith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hockensmith and brother Miles “Bob” Hockensmith, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
