John Kearin

John J. “Jack” Kearin, III, 71, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday morning, June 6, 2021 at his home. Born August 7, 1949 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late John J. Kearin, II and Yvonne Milam. He was a graduate of Santa Monica College and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. Jack served honorably with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded four Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, and a Bronze Star. He dedicated his life to law enforcement spending 19 years with the Hermosa Beach Police Department where he was awarded the Medal of Valor on April 3, 1986. He had served as Chief of Police in Davidson, NC and in Highwood, IL. He was a member of the Chambersburg Country Club; a former member of the River Creek Country Club in Leesburg, VA; and a member of the Porsche Club of America. He enjoyed golfing, grilling, visiting wineries with his beloved wife Kendra, and Jazz music. John loved his dogs, Cooper and Maizie; his cat Dilly; and his grand pups Leo and Ember. He had a tender place in his heart for veterans. As a gun enthusiast, he enjoyed spending time shooting at the Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club where he was a member. He also enjoyed watching Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kendra Keller Kearin; two daughters, Yvonne C. Wlaschin and husband Navy Cmdr. Kirt Wlaschin of Alexandria, VA and Jordan K. Kearin of Gurnee, IL; step-daughter Alexis A. Bryan of Charlotte, NC; step-son Benjamin R. Grove of Washington, DC; and ten grandchildren, Trinity, Blake, Ryan, Diana, Derek, Gerald, Marie, Maryanne, Alice, and Aubrey. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Kearin and wife Joanne; his sister, Candise Strunk; and his mother-in-law, Kay Mellott Keller of Chambersburg.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Letterkenny Chapel, 2171 Carbaugh Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. The Very Rev. Allan F. Wolfe will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service begins at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Chapel.
