John Lynch

John F. “Jack” Lynch, 93, of Chambersburg, PA, died Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Chambers Pointe Nursing Center (formerly Penn Hall) in Chambersburg. Born November 8, 1923 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late John and Rosalie Roletter Lynch. Mr. Lynch graduated from the Williamson Trade School as a machinist in 1943 and then volunteered for the US Army in December of 1943. He fought in WWII in Europe as a member of the 1056th Battallion Army Engineer Corps landing in Normandy on D-Day. He fought in the battle of the Bulge and returned home from service in September of 1945. He attended Drexel Institute in Philadelphia (now Drexel University). He was employed as a machinist at Baldwin Locomotive; and an engineer at Marco Development Co; F.F. Slocumb Corp. and Toro Machine, retiring at age 70. He was a longtime resident of Aston, PA and served as Aston Township Auditor for several years. Mr. Lynch attended St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed painting, cooking, wine making, model railroads, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family. His beloved wife, Helen V. Lutz Lynch, whom he married July 31, 1948, preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Helen (Ron) Murphey of John’s Creek, GA; a son, John (Christine) Lynch of Chambersburg, PA; grandchildren Katie (Kasey) Kester of Atlanta, GA, Daniel Murphy of John’s Creek, GA, Matthew (Nicole) Lynch of Brooklyn, NY, and Margo Lynch of Pittsburgh, PA; great-grandson Jackson Kester of Atlanta, GA; and his sister, Jeanette Reeves of Cape May Villas, NJ. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Lynch.

A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Lynch’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Chapel at Penn Hall, 1425 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 20, 2017 at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
