John McCleaf

John Jeffry Lynn McCleaf, 61, of Fayetteville, PA, died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Chambersburg Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born September 4, 1954 in Hagerstown, MD, he was a son of Mary Kathryn Thomas McCleaf of Hagerstown, MD and the late Grayson McCleaf. A 1972 graduate of South Hagerstown High School, he had been employed at the Pangborn Corporation in Hagerstown and World Kitchen in Greencastle. He was self-employed in the construction business for a number of years and most recently at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. John was a member of the Marine Corps League and the AMVETS. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, riding his Harley Davidson, NASCAR, and having coffee with his mother on Sunday mornings. John was an accomplished carpenter and could fix anything. Many of his skills he learned from Watson West, an important figure in his life.

He is survived by his companion of sixteen years, Sherry Miller; three daughters, Christine Adams and husband Dave of Knightdale, NC, Carrie McCleaf-Dean and husband Tom of Bear, DE, and Sara McCleaf and companion Andy Bowman of Glen Mills, PA; three grandchildren, Johnathan Adams, Jocelyn Adams, and Ella Dean; four siblings, Stewart McCleaf and wife Judy of Waynesboro, James G. McCleaf and wife Phyllis of Hagerstown, MD, Lillian Huntzberry and husband Wilbur of Maugansville, and William McCleaf and companion Robin Collins of Hagerstown, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Trisha Brandt will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery, Fayetteville, PA. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday and from Noon-1:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Four Diamonds Fund, Penn State Milton S.
