John R. Osler, Sr., 89, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday morning, April 23, 2016 at Quincy Home. Born January 2, 1927 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Susan Marie Spoonhour. His beloved wife of 61 years, Treva Fleece Osler, preceded him in death on May 12, 2010.
John was a veteran of the 28th Infantry Division Pennsylvania National Guard 728 Ordinance Co. He was employed as a gas service man for the Borough of Chambersburg for 42 years until his retirement in 1989. He served as the Chambersburg Fire Police Captain for many years and was also a member of the Goodwill Fire Co. and the Franklin Fire Dept. John enjoyed fishing, tying flies, woodworking, camping, swimming and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by six children, Linda Tucker and husband Clyde of Boonsboro, MD, Patti Divens and husband Bernard of Chambersburg, John R. Osler, Jr. and wife Kathy of Shippensburg, Kathleen Clopper and husband Bernard of Chambersburg, Kristine Rock and husband Joseph of Shippensburg, and Melissa Willey and husband Raymond of Chambersburg; 12 grandchildren, Harold Kriner, Jr., Rebecca McCauley, Katherine Moats, Chad Divens, Shelly Divens, Stacey Osler, John R. Osler III, Beth McKnight, Ryan Rock, Jeremy Burkholder, Cody Burkholder, and Crystal Gettel; 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held to honor John’s life at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00- 8:00 PM and on Wednesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
