John T. Sczerba, at age 91, of Chambersburg, PA peacefully passed into the arm of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 24, 2021 surrounded by his daughters; he joined his loving wife Anna L. (Sega) Sczerba, who preceded him in death.
Born February 9, 1930 in West Homestead, PA he was the son of the late Teofil and Vanislavna “Stella” (Kalodziejczyk) Sczerba. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from November 20, 1951 until his honorable discharge November 10, 1955.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh. He was employed by US Steel, Pittsburgh and later as a computer programmer at Letterkenny Army Depot for the Department of Defense.
He was a member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, and the Chambersburg Fitness Center both in Chambersburg. Mr. Sczerba enjoyed going to the gym, traveling, painting, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Barber and her husband Leon of Mechanicsburg, PA and Sandra Lee Burkett and her husband Anthony of Greencastle, PA; four grandchildren, Danielle Burkett, Kaitlyn Landreth (Jarrett), Brittany Augliera (Anthony), and Matthew Barber (Kelsey Ridge); a great-granddaughter, Olivia Augliera and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by four siblings, Stanley Sczerba, Helen Rousseau, Walter Sczerba and Mary Stahl.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 29, 2021 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Dr. Robert Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg where military honors will be conducted by the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Monday morning in the funeral home.
