John E. Stumbaugh, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday morning, January 28, 2016 at his home. Born June 27, 1932 in Marion, PA, he was a son of the late Edward and Pearl Harmon Stumbaugh. John retired from C. Earl Brown where he worked as a diesel mechanic for forty-seven years. Following his retirement he worked part-time for fifteen years as a driver with Plasterer’s Florist and Greenhouse. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, spending time with his grandchildren in the mountains, and hunting mushrooms.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Miller Stumbaugh, whom he married July 8, 1950; two daughters, Densie Baranoski of Chambersburg and Julie Yentsch of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Christopher Baranoski, Matthew Baranoski, Timothy Baranoski, Tyler Gadberry, and Allison Kiehl; and eight great-grandchildren, Jonas, Ava, Jake, Sophia, Mason, Mackenzie, Bennett, and Harper. He is also survived by two sisters, Catherine Cordell and Gladys Leininger, both of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lester Ralph Stumbaugh who was killed in action during WWII; and three sisters, Edna Stoner, Mildred Schlicter, and Ruth College.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, February 6, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mike Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow at Brown’s Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
