John J. Szajna, 75, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 7, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Adella (Kuziemski) Szajna.
A US Navy veteran, John served honorably during the Vietnam War. He earned a Juris Doctorate from Villanova University in 1976 following his service in the Navy. John was employed as a public defender in Chester County, PA early in his career. He spent most of his working years with the engineering firm Nassaux – Hemsley in Chambersburg, PA. In the mid 2000’s he started his own firm, Zeiders & Szajna. John was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, American Legion Post 46, the Chambersburg Club, and the Franklin County Bar Association.
John enjoyed fishing trips with his son to Colorado, Villanova sports, traveling to Kiawah Island, SC, and spending time with his family and many friends. An animal lover, John also loved spending time with his dog Tona.
He is survived by two children, Amy Elizabeth Szajna of Philadelphia, PA, and Peter Szajna of Lexington, KY; one grandson, Nathaniel Szajna, and two cousins, Nancy Kuziemski, and Sandra McElroy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Fr. Allan Wolfe will celebrate. Private interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Monday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
