John T. Van Horn, 94, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Tuesday evening, March 1, 2022 at Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Chambersburg. Born April 11, 1927 in Bedford County, PA, he was the son of the late John M. and Lillie Ritchey Van Horn. He served honorably with the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Van Horn owned and operated a construction business for 27 years prior to his retirement. He attended West Side Brethren In Christ Church and was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW. He enjoyed working with his hands creating and fixing things.
He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Piper Van Horn, whom he married January 27, 1973; two daughters, Maraschina Cordell of Falling Waters, WV and Trina Lehman and husband Gary of Chambersburg; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Hale of McConnellsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Truax.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor W. David Kent will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service begin at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
