Joseph H. Bollinger, 91, formerly of 916 Parkside Court, Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday evening, June 22, 2015 at Providence Place, where he had resided since March. Born February 3, 1924 near Pond Bank, PA, he was a son of the late Edward W. and Sarah Jane Bumbaugh Bollinger. Joe was a graduate of the Eastern Mennonite School in Harrisonburg, VA and served in the Civilian Public Service. Early in his life he was employed with the former Goetz Meats and with Lehman’s Egg Service. He retired in 1984 as a Branch Manager from F&M Trust Company in Chambersburg. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church where he sang with the Gospel Tones Quartet and served as a song leader. His first wife, Coetta Barkdoll Bollinger, whom he married in 1947, preceded him in death in 1983. His second wife, Hannah R. Wingert Bollinger, whom he married in 1983, preceded him in death on May 4, 2006.
The last of his immediate family, he is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Alma Collins. In addition to his parents and spouses, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Daywalt; and six brothers, Richard, James, David, Edward, George, and Paul Bollinger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, it was Joe’s desire that memorial contributions in his memory be made to Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, 2509 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
