Joseph Davis

Joseph Franklin Davis, age 75, of Chambersburg, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, Janurary 10, 2014 at his home. Born June 7, 1938 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Bruce Victor and Rachel Josephine Webber Davis.
A 1956 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1963. After returning home, he went to work at the H.J. Heinz Company, where he worked until the plant closed. He then worked at T.B. Woods Co., Ingersoll Rand, and Greencastle Metal Works. After his retirement he worked part-time landscaping for Jerry Peters. He was a dedicated employee and liked by everyone. He was a loyal member of St. James United Brethren Church, where he and his family have attended and served for years. He served in his church on the Board of Administration and as a Sunday school Superintendent and teacher for many years. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards with family and doing word game books. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Lou Swope Davis, whom he married September 10, 1961; three children, Timothy Michael Davis and wife Angie of Chambersburg, Tammy Jo Koser and husband Fred of Shippensburg, and Todd Andrew Davis and wife Sue of Fayetteville, PA; seven grandchildren, Michael and wife Charlotte, Amanda, Sarah, Beth, Catie, and Austin Davis, and Becky Koser and husband Marvin; two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Jaxen Davis; one brother, Melvin Davis of Clear Spring, MD; and one sister, Clara Stine of Greencastle, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Charles, Donald, and Terry Davis; two sisters, Mabel “Jane” Ehrhart and Nora Davis; and a son-in-law, Doug Gotshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in St. James United Brethren Church, 2398 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202, where Pastor Murray Stevens will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James United Brethren Church at the above address.
