Joseph D. Hixon, 90, a resident of the Shook Home and formerly of 855 Broad Street, Chambersburg, PA, died at 2:45 AM Sunday, March 20, 2011 in the nursing home. Born February 17, 1921 near Hancock, MD, he was a son of the late Elmer T. and Mary Kellner Hixon. Joe was a graduate of the Hancock High School and served as an Aircraft Engineer Mechanic with the US Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg where he had been employed in the electronics shop. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and volunteered alongside his late wife Jeneva with Meals on Wheels and at the Chambersburg Toy Mission for many years. His beloved wife, Jeneva Henline Hixon preceded him in death on September 21, 2009.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Ellen Bohrer of Hagerstown, MD and Nancy Ayres and husband Thomas of Montgomery, TX; two brothers, Elmer Hixon of Cumberland, MD and Lowell Hixon and wife Linda of Hancock, MD; a special nephew, Wayne Hixon of Loch Haven who was raised as part of the family; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Joseph Hixon on September 22, 2007, three brothers, two sisters, and an infant sister.
Services and interment in the Hancock Presbyterian Church Cemetery will be private.
