Joseph J. “Joe” Horner, 76, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Born July 25, 1942, in Johnstown, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Dorothy L. Hohman Horner.
Joe was a 1960 graduate of Richland High School. A US Army veteran, Joe served honorably during the Vietnam War from 1962 – 65 and in the Army Reserves from 1965 – 68. He was employed as a computer operator for US Steel and later in the inventory department with T.B. Woods until his retirement. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 46, the Chambersburg Club, AMVETS Post 224, VFW Post 1599, and the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed taking walks every day and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by four siblings, Ernest E. Horner and wife Joan of Ohio, Betty J. Witkosky of Chambersburg, Thomas J. Horner and wife Mary of Chambersburg and Christine L. Stine and husband Randy of Chambersburg; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and three great-great nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother Paul Horner and his sister Dorothy Piper.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, PA at the convenience of the family.
