October 30, 1930 — April 16, 2016

Joseph F. "Fred" Mort of Fannettsburg, PA, died Saturday, April 16, 2016,
at Hershey Medical Center from complications following heart surgery. Born
October 25, 1930, in Fannettsburg, he was the son of Norman Allen and Mabel
Heckman Mort. He was a 1948 graduate of the Metal Township Vocational High
School and served with the US Air Force in Okinawa during the Korean War.
Early in his life he was employed as a truck driver and brick mason having
helped build the Mack Truck building. He would later work for Mack Truck,
Inc., Power Train Division, retiring as Corporate Quality Assurance Section
Manager after 25 years.
Fred built his own home, where he and his wife Donna raised their family
and lived since 1958. He enjoyed working on his farm, hunting, cutting
firewood, and tinkering (particularly on well used equipment). He was a
member of the American Angus Association and raised registered Angus cattle
for many years. Fred loved riding horses and was trail boss of the semi
annual Pancake Ride from Path Valley to Burnt Cabins for breakfast, and
back, often attended by more than 100 riders.
A former long standing Metal Township Supervisor, Fred was a member of
Wesley Yeager American Legion Post 606 in Ft. Loudon, attended the Carrick
United Methodist Church and was on the board of the Fannettsburg Cemetery
Association.
He was quick to lend a hand to family, friend and cause and will be
sorely missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Donna Sheffield Mort, whom he married April 3,
1956, in Winchester, VA; two sons, Gerald S. Mort (Cindy) of Chambersburg
and Mallory M. Mort (Karen) of Ghent, NY; a daughter, Kati A. Krebs (Tim)
of Fayetteville; four grandsons, Robert (Lisa), Emory, Austin and Tyler
Mort; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Aaron Mort. He is also
survived by two sisters, Mary Vocke (Bill) and Joan Christopher as well as
