Joseph A. Sallurday, Jr., age 66, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Friday morning, July 11, 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born September 12, 1947 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Sr., and Winnifred A. Lockley Sallurday.
Joe was a 1966 graduate of West Side High School in Scranton. Drafted into the Army in 1966, he served honorably in Vietnam. After his discharge, Joe attended Penn State University. He and his family moved to Chambersburg in 1971 where he began working at SKF in Shippensburg and later at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 1999 after 20 years of service. Joe was a kind and loving man who helped anyone who asked. He was proud to be an American and to have served in the Military. While growing up, he played baseball in West Scranton. He enjoyed being with his family, family holidays and watching his grandchildren and great-nieces grow up. Joe also loved nature, the outdoors, feeding the deer, gardening, sports, and traveling with his wife. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed NASCAR and the New York Yankees. Joe was a lifetime member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599, the Hume McNeal Byers AmVETS Post 224, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 842 all in Chambersburg.
Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy McLucas Sallurday, whom he married on June 26, 1982; two sons, Christopher McLucas and wife Terri of Chambersburg, and Anthony Presley and wife Kris of Scotland, PA; two granddaughters, Morgan and Brooklyn Presley; his sister, Sharon Bowman and husband Richard of Chambersburg; his niece, Sara Valadez and husband Ron of Clovis, CA; three great-nieces, Jonah, Grace and Jesha Valadez all of Clovis, CA; his mother-in-law, Doris McLucas of Chambersburg, and numerous step –grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Larry Shirdell and Pastor Manny Diaz will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2014 and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
