Josephine M. “Josie” Carter, age 89, of Chambersburg, died at 11:45 PM on Sunday, December 18, 2011 in Manor Care Health Services of Chambersburg, where she had resided for the past year. Born on January 28, 1922, in Northumberland, PA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Krewin) Jablonski of Northumberland. She was the widow of Elmer F. Carter, who preceded her in death in 1989.
A homemaker, Josie enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family, playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary and a social member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 842, both in Chambersburg.
She is survived by her son, Gary L. Carter Sr. (and wife, Beverly); two grandchildren, Gary L. Carter Jr. (and wife, Karrie) and Janelle L. Truett (and husband, Rusty); and three great grandchildren, all of Chambersburg. She is also survived by three sisters, Alice Raup, Kathryn Arter, and Helen Boyer, and one brother, Stanley Jablonski, all of Northumberland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, December 22, 2011 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
