Joyce F. Bard, 62, of Chambersburg, PA, died Monday evening, December 17, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. Born October 9, 1950 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Gilma VanScyoc Baker. She was a 1968 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University in 1972. Joyce was employed by the Chambersburg Area School District for 36 years as a Health and Physical Education teacher, retiring in 2008. She was a member of the International Honorary Phys. Ed. Fraternity, the National and Pennsylvania State Education Associations, and was a social member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW. Joyce was an avid reader and had a passion for photography, gardening, and landscaping. She also enjoyed toll painting and the challenge of numerous do-it-yourself projects. A loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

She is survived by her husband, Edgar B. Bard, whom she married August 9, 1975; two children, Andrew M. Bard and wife Stephanie of Fayetteville and Erin M. Landis and husband Joshua of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Gage Landis, Brady Landis, and Andrew “Drew” Bard, Jr.; three step-grandchildren, Ashley, Autumn, and River Willingham; and her brother, Curtis L., Baker and wife Orpha of Lancaster, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey G. Baker.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 28, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Christopher T. Little officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, December 27, 2012 and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
