Joyce Hassler, 84, of Chambersburg, and formerly of Fort Loudon, PA, passed away Tuesday morning, January 23, 2018 at her home. Born January 8, 1934 in Buffalo, NY, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Adeline Bauer Silvernail. Mrs. Hassler was a 1951 graduate of the former Hagerstown High School. She retired from Mack Truck in Hagerstown, MD. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon and volunteered serving meals at the church. Mrs. Hassler was an avid reader and enjoyed crafts, knitting, sewing, and painting.
She is survived by her husband, Thurman D. Hassler, whom she married October 15, 1993; two daughters, Kim Guessford (Tony) of Hagerstown, MD, and Jodi Davis (John) of Frederick, MD; a step-daughter, Susan Brechbill (Larry) of Waynesboro; two step-sons, Tony Hassler (Jocelyn) of Hummelstown, PA, and Shawn Hassler (Jayna) of Chambersburg, PA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Michále Ridgely; and two sisters, Marilyn F. Silvernail and Gail L. Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 26, 2018 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
