Joyce E. Peters, aged 78, made her transition to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 20th after a very brief, yet courageous battle with cancer. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend and loved by all who knew her. If she knew you, she loved you.
Born in Cleversburg, Joyce was the daughter of Elmer C. and Bessie E. (Helm) Lynch. She married Edward F. Peters, Sr., the love of her life, in 1959 and they enjoyed their life together until his passing in 2016. Together they had three children: son Edward F., Jr. and his wife Barbara (Menter) and daughters Teresa and Pamela.
Spending time with her family was Joyce’s greatest joy and she was especially proud of her grandchildren Kristen Brookens (husband Kipp) and C. Michael (wife Ashley) as well as her four great grandchildren Riley and Tate Brookens and Blake and Ellie Peters. Her favorite title was that of Nanny.
She is survived by nine siblings Calvin (Shirley) of Oakville, Thomas, Sr. of Shippensburg, Betty (Fred) Wetzel of Chambersburg, Bonnie (Elmer) Poe of Guilford Station, Charles (Louise) of Chambersburg, Linda (Don) Massingill of St. Thomas, David (Connie) of Chambersburg, Jeff of Sebastian, FL, and Karen Leader of Chambersburg. She also loved and was loved by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Joyce Lynch.
A lifetime employee of The J. Schoeneman Company, she retired upon the company’s closure, having spent many years as a seamstress and a quality inspector. She then worked at the Chambersburg Hospital in Environmental Services where she took great pride in ensuring the highest standards for infection prevention.
Joyce was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 842, Franklin Fire Company, and a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post 224. She was a member of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Chambersburg and had a very strong faith.
