Judith F. “Judy” Mayer, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at age 80. She was born in Wyandotte, MI on April 12, 1942 to Norma and Melvin Isabell.
After graduating from Flat Rock High School, Judy earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Shippensburg University. She was a dedicated teacher in the Chambersburg Area School District for over 20 years, with most of her time spent as a kindergarten teacher at the Fayetteville Elementary School.
Judy was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and several professional organizations including the Pennsylvania State Education Association retirement organization. When Judy wasn’t shopping, she loved being near the ocean and at her childhood family home on the river. She had a gift for gab and loved laughing with family and friends around dinner tables, at lunches out, and over card games. She was always generous with family and to those in need.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Donald Mayer, Jr, whom she married October 22, 1983; daughters, Michelle McGinnis, and husband Dmitri; Kathleen McGinnis, husband Matt and their children Jonah, Julian and Carolyn; step-sons, Donald Mayer, III, wife Margaret and their children Emma and Grace; Malcolm Mayer, wife Wanda and their children Adam, Gage, and Jessica; siblings Janice Brillowsky, Jim Isabell, Stella Shephard; and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Carol.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 8, 2022 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with the Rev. Jane Nicholson officiating.
