Karen L. G. Stambaugh, 64, was called to be with her Lord and Savior on December 3, 2024. Born March 8, 1960 in York, PA, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Helen L. Becker Gentzler.
Karen dedicated her life to educating and uplifting those around her, spending 41 commendable years as a teacher at Shalom Christian Academy, Carlisle Christian Academy, and Shippensburg Middle School, where she specialized in 6th grade Learning Support. Her career was marked by a profound commitment to her students, touching countless lives through her compassionate and nurturing approach.
Karen's academic journey began with her graduation from Spring Grove High School in 1978, and followed with a Bachelor's of Education, which she earned in 1982 from Shippensburg University. She furthered her knowledge and expertise by obtaining a Master’s in Special Education in 2002 from the same institution. Her educational background not only equipped her with the skills needed to excel as a teacher but also instilled in her a lifelong passion for learning.
Beyond her profession, Karen was known for her positive outlook on life and her caring, loving nature. She brought joy and warmth to every interaction, leaving a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and friends alike. Her ability to inspire and connect with others was a testament to her loving spirit.
In her personal life, Karen found joy in various hobbies and interests. She loved leading worship at Zion Covenant Church. Karen always had a song on her heart and was almost continually singing. Additionally, she enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, playing the piano, and spending time camping. These activities brought her happiness and provided moments of serenity amidst the tasks of daily life.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald H. “Jerry” Stambaugh whom she married on June 17, 1995; four children, Lindsay Russell and husband Christopher of Shippensburg, Jeremy Stambaugh of Shippensburg, Kaitlyn Thompson of Enola, and Ian Thompson of Shippensburg; four grandchildren, Abigael, Garbriella, Mordecai, and Emariah Russell; one brother, Gary Gentzler (Chris) of FL; three nephews, Ryan, Adam, and Jeff Gentzler of York; one niece, Megan Stambaugh; eight great nieces and nephews, Haley, Jenna, Logan, Kaitlyn, Victoria, Brayden, Brianna and Dylan; and close friends, Jody Boardman, Tammy Johnson, Dave Miley and Karen Zeigler. Aside from her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Dolly Mae Griffith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor William Dingeldein will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. An additional Celebration of Life, followed by a time of fellowship, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Zion Covenant Church, 1102 Locust St. Chambersburg, PA 17202.
