Kathleen Spoonhour

Kathleen L. Spoonhour, 73, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at 5:30 AM, Friday, June 10, 2011 at her home. Born May 14, 1938 in Greene Township, Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Maude Mae Peck Thomas. Kathleen had been employed at the former Gettysburg Shoe Company and the Stanley Company in Chambersburg. When she was younger she attended Mt. Union United Methodist Church. She enjoyed listening to country music, working puzzle books, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, John W. Spoonhour, Sr., whom she married January 29, 1955; six children, John W. Spoonhour, Jr. and wife Jean, Roxanne Hockenberry and husband Harold, Jr., Harold D. Spoonhour and wife Susan, Barbara Jean Spoonhour, Barry Evan Spoonhour, all of Chambersburg, and Travis L. Spoonhour and fiancé Karen Koons of Shippensburg; ten grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by eight sisters, Mary McCleaf of Hagerstown, Mae Reed and Ruth Juray of Chambersburg, Grace Heckman (husband Melvin), Nancy Bumbaugh (husband Donald), Nellie Pensinger, Blanche Thomas, all of Fayetteville, and Marie Thomas of Chambersburg; two brothers, James “Pete” Thomas and wife Marie and Frank Thomas and wife Doris Jean, all of Fayetteville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert William Spoonhour; four brothers, George, Clarence, Edgar, and Wilbur Thomas; and three sisters, Louise Orndorff, Jean Scott, and Joanne Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Staci Geesaman will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quincy, PA. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
