Kathryn S. Miner, 97, of Chambersburg, PA, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Kate was born on August 15, 1925 in Roxbury, PA to the late Boyd and Blanche (Alleman) Myers. She was from a large and close family, having 7 brothers and 6 sisters.
Kate married John A. Miner on September 25, 1948. They lived in Chambersburg, finally building their last home at Penn National in Fayetteville, PA. Throughout their marriage, they traveled to many countries and spent winters in Naples, FL. They were avid golfers and Penn State football fans. They set up a scholarship foundation for Penn State Mont Alto students. Kate and John happily enjoyed their life together until John’s passing in October of 2011.
Kate started her working career at the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg. She then gave 37 years of service to the Valley Bank in Chambersburg, now known as M&T Bank. Kate was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church and also a past member of the Chambersburg Garden Club. She also had been very generous and many have benefited including Miner’s Train Station at Norlo Park; Penn State Mont Alto Choral Group; Penn National Lions Club; Legs Up Program for Children; Golfing Memorials; and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Kate is survived by two sisters, Sally Crider of Chambersburg and Molly Shoemaker (and friend, Sonny Baer) of Spring Run, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Dave, Harry, Arthur, Jerry, Charles (Jack), and Ellis (Abe), and four sisters, Esther Kuhn, Helen Stevens, Berdella (Dilly) Gipe, and Edna (Eddie) Ryder.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Bruce Levy and Rev. John Ile will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
