Kenneth H. Hoover, 93, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on November 15, 1922 in Thomasville, PA, he was a son of the late Marcus C. Hoover and Myrtle Belle Heilman Hoover. Ken honorably served his country with the U.S. Army in World War II, and he was a member of the VFW Post 1599, American Legion Post 46, and AmVets Post 224, all in Chambersburg. He was the founder and owner of numerous custard stands in Chambersburg and Hagerstown from 1947-88, most notably Hoover's Drive-In and Kenny's Fast Food. A career which started with Chambersburg's first frozen custard stand would span across 4 decades, and he became affectionately known to many as "King Custard." Ken is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 42 years, his partner in life, business, and dance, Patricia Shultz Hoover, whom he married August 4, 1973;one step-son Bryan Spoonhour (wife Scarlett) of Chambersburg. Ken & his first wife Mary G. Hoover (deceased) had two children, Ronald E. Hoover (wife Carolyn) of Pilot Mountain, NC and Vicki L. Washinger (husband Mike) of Chambersburg; two granddaughters, Angela M. Barroso (husband Henry) of Cape Coral, FL and Sara L. Shank (husband Chad) of Drexel Hill, PA; and two great grandchildren. The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sherman, and four sisters, Ethel, Blanche, Janet and Helen. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, March 11, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors.
