He graduated with high honors from Hagerstown Junior College in a year and a half. Kent then went on to graduate Cum Laude with a Bachelor Degree in business administration from Towson State. He served with the United States Marine Corps from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968.

Kent was an airline transport rated corporate pilot out of Hagerstown, MD for 47 years. He was the chief pilot and flight department manager for Tristate Electric Supply and Quest One, LLC.
