Kevin Ross Shoop, 46, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Friday, December 17, 2021, in Hagerstown, MD. Born November 30, 1975 in Tucson, AZ, he is the son of Rodney M. and Judith Culbertson Shoop. Kevin lived in Germany, Virginia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Maryland as a child of a career military family. He graduated from North Hagerstown High School, MD, in 1994 where he excelled in soccer and basketball. He served two years in the U. S. Army as a Cavalry Scout, then attended Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He served in the restaurant industry in Myrtle Beach for several years.
More recently he received his Associate of Arts degree with honors from Harrisburg Area Community College. In June of 2021 Kevin graduated Cum Laude from Drexel University with a B.S. Degree in Behavioral Health Counseling and Addictions. Since then he has actively pursued employment in the field of Counseling and Addictions while preparing to apply for graduate school.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his maternal grandmother Rhoda Eckman, of Chambersburg, Aunt Robin Groff and Uncle Fred Groff of New Holland, PA, Aunt Marty Naunas of Atlanta, GA, and four cousins. Kevin was formerly married to Barbara Jo Phillips of Hagerstown, MD.
He could be seen often on any of several pickleball courts locally and elsewhere. Kevin’s life was cut short, and he will be deeply missed by so many.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you may donate to your local chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) or to your favorite charity.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 8, 2022 in the King Street Church, 162 E. King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev. Ronald Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church Saturday morning. Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg.
